Will my wish come true???
Just want a stress free day
With no job and all time to play
All needs fulfilled and wild imaginations come true
Like, A Merc and a house at the bay
Will my wish come true…
No one to report to and no one reporting to
A day full of nothingness & without any deadlines
No targets and nothing to catch up to...
All in all, lots of time; to while away...
But is this what I was wishing sometime back???
Will my wish come true…
A demanding desk with lots of perks
Fine suits and a place to sway
Something that makes me busy always
Never follow anyone…Create my own ways
Will my wish come true…
Lots & lots of people reporting to
Place that offers me work round the clock
Never let down my commitments & loyalty
All in all, never waste time; money too…
As & when the year changes…the wishes change…
So as the person who wishes…
May be coz change s the only permanent thing that exists in everyone’s life…

Who's Next???
I have been in this consulting industry for more than three years… Time & again I have been thinking about this for quite sometime… ‘The ONE company to watch out for in IT industry…Is it Google??? Yahoo??? Microsoft??? Computer Associates??? Symantec???
Ahem…now its “THE TWO” companies to look out for...Its IBM & Oracle!!!
coz I got a shock when I read Oracle bought Sun Micro for $7.4 Billion while IBM had quoted $6.85 billion
Something tickled me to do some research on these companies’ M&A Strategies…did some research...n was amazed to see the results...Here we go...
IBM (International Business Machine)
IBM's history dates back decades before the development of electronic computers. It originated as the Tabulating Machine Company in 1896.
Computing Tabulating Recording (CTR) Corporation was formed through a merger of four different companies: the Tabulating Machine Company, the International Time Recording Company, the Computing Scale Corporation, and the Bundy Manufacturing Company. This was incorporated on June 16, 1911. CTR was renamed International Business Machines corporation in 1924 (oh my god!!! It’s almost 85 years)
In the past 85 years, they have acquired more than 95 companies across business like Software development, consulting, business intelligence, content management etc…
To my surprise, out of 95, more than 45 companies had been acquired during the period 2004-2009 (still counting)
Some of the notable acquisitions of IBM since 1995:
Lotus Corporation – 1995 – Desktop & Personal computers
Tivoli Systems Inc – 1996 – Service Management, security, Storage Software Products
Informix Corporation – 2001 - Database
PriceWaterhouseCoopers – 2002 – Business Consulting
Rational Software Corporation – 2003 – Software development Products
Daksh e-Services – 2004 – BPO Services
Ascential Software Corporation – 2005 – Datawarehousing & Business Intelligence
Network Solutions – 2005 – IT Services
Filenet Corporation – 2006 – Content Management
Internet Security Systems (ISS) – 2006 – IT Security
Vallent Corporation – 2007 - Telecommunications
DataMirror Corporation – 2007 – Data Integration
Cognos – 2008 – Business Intelligence
Outblaze's E-Mail Service Assets – 2009 – Email Service alert for Lotus Products
Now comes the Head-on competitor - Oracle
Oracle, founded in 1977, specializes in developing & marketing DBMS Products. Through its organic growth & a number of high profile acquisitions, they became one of the head-on competitors for IBM.
They are in an acquisition spree since 2005 & they have acquired around 50 companies
Some of their major acquisitions:
i-Flex Solutions – 2005 – Financial Software Product Development
Retek – 2005 – Retail Management System
Oblix – 2005 – Security Product
Peoplesoft – 2005 – Enterprise Software
Siebel Systems – 2006 – CRM Product development
Metasolv – 2006 – OSS Software
Hyperion Corporation – 2007 – Enterprise Performance Management
Agile Software Corporation – 2007 – PLM
BEA Systems – 2008 – Enterprise Software
Sun Microsystems – 2009 – Hardware, Software, IT Services
Though the list of acquisition is less, the value of the organizations is high…
Competing Products in the market
Websphere - Weblogic
Oracle DBMS - DB2 & Informix
Cognos - Hyperion
IBM MDM - Oracle MDM
IBM Infosphere- Oracle Fusion Middleware
Tivoli - Oracle Oblix, Sun IDM, Sun IAM
IBM SDK - Java JDK (Sun)
AIX - Solaris (Sun)
IBM Servers - Sun Server
IBM HPC - Sun HPC
IBM WMQ - SeeBeyond
IBM Chip Designing- Sun Chip designing (Montalvo Systems)
Next possible Acquisitions either by IBM or Oracle:
Computer Associates ($ 4.5 Billion) – Leading Enterprise IT management product Development Company which is a near competitor for IBM Tivoli products…So there are high possibilities that Oracle can buy CA in near future because Oblix & Sun IDM & IAM alone will not be able to compete with Tivoli range of products.
Vignette Corporation ($ 170 Million) – Leading content management product development company. The only way for Oracle to compete with IBM’s Filenet product is to buy Vignette Corporation. I think they will do in near future
Informatica ($ 450 Million) – Leading Data warehousing Product Development Company…hmm…I donno…survival of the fittest…Lets see is it gonna be IBM or Oracle or someone else
SAP Labs ($ 10 Billion) – Leading ERP software product Development Company which is one of the major competitor of Oracle. So let’s wait n watch what IBM is gonna do…
Apart from these, so many companies might come under their radar like Tibco, Webmethods, Symantec, McAfee, Pega Systems, BMC, NCR corporation...
Lets wait n watch who is gonna be the next big fish in their net...

Nice Stuff...
Theorem: Generalised method for finding the average time any person takes for walking 1 km using his/her trouser length & shoe size
Logic: At the instant when a person keeps is first leg and lifts the back leg, the front leg is at 90 degrees to the ground. hence using pythagoras theorem H = length of the back leg (TL,trouser length in Cm's)+ SS, Shoe size, O = TL,trouser length in CM's. Find A, the average step length.
Having found A, which is approximately the average length of the step a person takes, one can calulate the time the person takes to complete the step = T.
Average Step length,S in meters = (Sqrt (sqr (TL+SS) – Sqr(TL)) )/100
Time taken for S =T
Time taken for 1 KM in Minutes= ((1000*T/(S* 60)
Time Taken for N Km's = N(1000*T)/(S* 60)
Example:
My Trouser Length = 43 inches = 110.94
My Shoe Size = 9 inches = 22.5
H= TL + SS
H=133.44
O= 110.94
A = SQRT (SQR(133.44)- SQR(110.94))
A = SQRT (17806.23-12307.68)
A= 74.15221
A or S in Metres =0.7415221
TIme taken to complete S = 1.2 Seconds
Time I take for 1 KM = (1000*0.9) /(0.7415221*60)
Time I take for 1 KM =20.22862 minutes
How is that???

"Varanam Aayiram"........Whatever happens, Life has to go on!!!!
I still remember those days when we went to watch movies just for fun, time pass...
then came the days when we went to watch the heros on the screens...
then came the days when we went to watch the movies because of their directors...
n then came the days when we went to watch the movies because of their Story, Screenplay & Cinematography...
One such film is Varanam Aayiram...After a great struggle for two weeks, I could manage to get a ticket for a night show...[with my mom :-) now a days, she s the only person who accompanies me for movies] With lots n lots of expectations, I was sitting in my allotted seat to watch the most awaited movie...after some couple of commercials...The movie started off with a gramaphone on the screen n a person (Suriya) singing an oooold Hindi song followed by "uravugal thodarkadhai" song...Apart from the film "GURU", this is the only film in which I liked title bgm.
The story in a nutshell - the theme of how a father often came across his son's life as a hero and inspiration, whose death was deeply mourned in the end. It may sound so childish when u read this...but watch the movie you will realize the real feel of it...The screenplay of the film is fantabulous...Its like reading a novel page by page...
Three reasons why I like this movie...(1) Gautam Menon (2) Suriya & (3) BGM & Songs (Harris Jayaraj)
Gautam Menon:
I am an avid fan of Gautham...I donno the reason...Starting from his first film 'Minnale' till his last film 'Pachai Kili Muthu Charam' Amazing works, Hats off to him!!! Name of the movie...Varanam Aayiram means 'the strength of a thousand elephants'...
really donno from where he gets these titles??? One more thing that I liked very much in the movie...the theme - Whatever happens, life has to go on!!! Amazing Theme...
Suriya:
Suriya s someone who likes to do normal things in a different way...Surya has, no doubt, scaled many dimensions in acting especially in this film, he carries the whole film in his shoulders...Starting from the introduction scene till the climax, simply superb acting...Especially when he gets onto the road in search of the Child, Aditya...
BGM & Songs:
Harris has proved that he was an assistant to AR Rahman...Amazing music...All the songs rock and his background score also is very good backed by good poetic lyrics...My favorite is "Nenjukul Peidhidum Maamazhai" & "Anajalai"...Hope to see more movies like this...
Overall...a movie worth watching...Hats off to the team...If you like this movie...then I am sure you are emotionally attached to someone in this world...may be ur dad or mom or bro or sis or wife or friend or anyone in ur life!!!!
